One hundred years ago, the first scheduled commercial airplane flight took place traveling from St. Petersburg to Tampa… the first steam ship made passage through the Panama Canal… Henry Ford opened an assembly line for the famous Model T and Babe Ruth made his debut with the Boston Red Sox – as a pitcher.
In that same year –1914 – Herbert and Agnes Greer founded Greer Industries in Morgantown, West Virginia. They then began the process of mapping out the limestone formation, and piecing together the necessary equipment and people to begin above-ground mining operations.
